North Street Approved 4th December

23 November 2023

Planning conditions agreed

The Planning application 23/P/01211 for the scheme consented by the planning committee, subject to finalisation of conditions, in October 2023 was finally  approved on the 4th December 2023 after conditions had been agreed with Council.

Appeal Withdrawn

This means the appeal on original Scheme has been withdrawn by St Edward's who kept the appeal in place pending the final approval of the consented scheme.

On large complex sites a Section 106 can take several months to finalise and agree e.g. St Mary’s/Debenhams took about 5-6 months The North Street Scheme has achieved the same exercise in approximately 6 weeks!!

A concern must be that in attempting to agree a Section 106 to avoid an appeal starting, as scheduled, on the 5th December, that complex agreements are not drafted correctly or missed.

The Society View on the Scheme

The Society spoke (text available below) at the meeting to maintain our objection to the Scheme focused on the Density, Mass and Height of the development.

The Society will obviously keep an eye on the site over the approximately 8 years it will take to build, it is possible there will be an opportunity to improve the scheme.

Other impacted sites.

There a number of sites that interact with the North Street Site including:

A revised Barclays Bank building proposed for North Street - See More

A revised No1 Onslow Street building approved by GBC. - See More
