Progress Easier for Heathrow Southern Railway?

24 November 2020

A Rail Link is still needed

Heathrow Southern Railway (HSR) the organisation backing a new Rail Link into Heathrow from Basingstoke and Guildford via Woking has issued an update on its activities.

HSR has been very quiet on its plans of late.  The news item makes a surprising claim that Dominic Cummings (ex - key Prime Minister advisor) had a focus on the former “Red Wall” northern constituencies.  This focus strongly influenced the Government’s economic strategy and its priorities for infrastructure investment.  This has caused HSR to have a frustrating 12 months.

A rail link to Heathrow is still beneficial as it was a viable project without a 3rd runway being built.  Although air traffic may take years to return post the Covid pandemic, Heathrow will remain an important hub airport for years to come.
