Any date for Footpath restoration?

02 November 2020

A year since the bridge was swept away.

2nd November marks the anniversary of the collapse of the Tumbling Bay Weir.

Whilst everyone is glad that the weir which is an intrinsic part of the Wey Navigation and local Flood Management has been rebuilt; there remains a missing link.

The footpath over the weir has not been rebuilt and there seem to be no agreed plans to do so.  The path along the Wey has become busier in these pandemic times and replacing the bridge over the weir would make life easier for Pedestrians and Cyclists.

Alternate routes are available but at least one of the routes, via Flower Walk, has very steep and poorly maintained steps down to the river.

There are several parties involved, National Trust, Environment Agency, and Guildford Borough Council.  Rumours persist that rebuilding the footpath could take several years.  It would be good to see a commitment to restore this link either as a temporary bridge or as a final version in a timeley manner.
