Strategy for Integrated Transport.

The Government has published a Strategy for Integrated Transport 'Better Connected', that adopts an approach of not considering transport as a series of different Modes e.g. Roads, Rail, but how best to facilitate journeys as na experience across the transport network as a whole.

Transport is not just about benefits to individuals but is also seen as critical to enabling and driving economic growth.

The document sets out the vision for England that creates a transport system that works for people, and gets the best out of the transport system we have, backed by £30 billion of transport investment.

The Strategy highlights 8 priorities.

  1. Payments and Information – making Journeys simpler to plan and with simpler fare structure
  2. Safe and Dependable – being able to trust the transport network
  3. Accessible and Affordable - Making Transport accessible to all and at a mangeable price
  4. Healthier Communities – making healthier travel Choices easy and convenient.
  5. Transport and Development – Integrating planning across Transport, Housing and Other Development
  6. Data and Technology – embedding technology and innovation into the transport network
  7. Empower Local Leaders – More power given to local leaders to drive forward transport innitaitives.
  8. Decision Making and Appraisal – provide a new Appraisal, Modelling and Evaluation Strategy, to align statistics and analytics related to transport to support this strategy.

Although the Strategy to an extent restates proposals in other documents it is significant in bringing several strands of thinking together. The Document is appended to this post below.
