They do things bigger in Texas.

Renewable developer Clearway Energy Group has completed a 452-megawatt (MW) solar farm in West Texas, that can power over 190,000 homes annually.  The $660 million facility requires around 5,000 acres (7 Sq/miles or 20 Sq/KM) of land and features over 1.1 million solar panels. Texas is second only to California in production of solar energy.  Texas is likely to become the No1 producer in the next five years. Despite being a solar and wind leader, it still produces very large quantities of gas and oil.

Solar is not Continuous

Solar, and Wind, power is not continuous and output has to be stored. Tesla’s Powerwall systems are used alongside wind, solar panels to store power generated from the sun. That energy can then be used to power user households, charge their electric vehicles (EVs), or be sent back to the electrical grid.

Tesla Energy recently announced that the company has reached 600,000 Powerwall installations worldwide.  The Powerwall is now in it’s 3rd generation.

Tesla has been a dominating force in developing the Battery Storage market and in the US claim about 30% of the market.

Last autumn Tesla announced its installed Powerwalls in Europe has surpassed 1 Gigawatt-hour (GWh), which the company says is enough energy storage to power roughly 41,000 households for 12 hours.

The news comes as the latest milestone in Tesla’s continued deployment of energy storage equipment in Europe, North America and elsewhere.

Tesla’s Powerwall systems are used alongside solar panels to store power generated from the sun. That energy can then be used to power user households, charge their electric vehicles (EVs), or be sent back to the electrical grid.

Tesla, and other suppliers of battery technology has enabled groups of homeowners with the hardware can essentially create large, distributed batteries, the power from which can then be sold back to the grid during peak demand or saved to be used during outages.  This concept is the foundation of the Virtual Power Plan Plant that Tesla is supporting in the US and other countries worldwide.
