Final Consultation on Extension

The proposed extension to the Surrey Hills National Landacpe has reached its final consultation stage.  Once consultation has been completed, and any final changes made, Natural England proposes to make an Order designating land areas as being of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. 

The draft Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty extension covers a area of  approximately 129 square kilometres in the counties of Surrey, Hampshire and Greater London.

Areas of particular interest to Guildford residents include

  • Hog’s Back (in Guildford Borough Council
  • Binscombe Hills (in Guildford Borough Council)
  • Wey Valley (in Waverley and Guildford Borough Councils)
  • Cranleigh Waters (in Waverley and Guildford Borough Councils)
  • Hatchlands and East Clandon (in Guildford Borough Council)

The consultation has started and finishes on the 14th of January 2026.

The notice period provides an opportunity for anyone to make representations to Natural England about the proposals.  All information can be found at this link
