The Society has now reviewed the outputs of the Stage II of the Shaping Guildford’s Future Project. We are now publishing our critique, see the document, at the foot of the post. The Critique has also been submitted to the council.
The Shaping Guildford’s Future project has been very silent on progress since it reported to the Council last September. It is an important project as it will potentially shape significant parts of the Town for decades to come.
It is also an opportunity to attempt to get solid policies to control the development of the town. The recent planning applications for St Mary’s Wharf (approved), and North Street (Rejected) have showed the lamentable lack of proper policies for the Town Centre.
The Local elections are to be held in May 2023. Significant resources have committed to the Shaping Guildford’s Future Team it is important that parties of all complexions remain committed to the project. It will be interesting to see what the manifesto’s promise.

Help us make Guildford better
We want our town to be vibrant, attractive and liveable. We support development that brings a sense of place and enhances the best aspects of our town. If such aims can be embraced, we believe Guildford has the chance to lead the way in enabling sensitive and sustainable development.
Pressures for development are increasing. Planning rules are being eased. The Society’s commitment to standing up for Guildford is needed more than ever.
