Revised Scheme

Portland Capital a specialist UK real estate investment management business is in the process of refining it's plans for the total redevelopment of the Riverside Business Park on Walnut tree close in the Town Centre.

They are holding two events where the public can view the plans.  The events are both taking place at Guildford Pavilion, The Sports Ground, Woodbridge Rd, Guildford GU1 4RP on:

  • Thursday 15th May 2025 from 4:00pm – 7:00pm
  • Friday 16th May 2025  from 12:00pm – 3:00pm

The plans have been developed by a tem lead by Sheppard Robson who have a team of 370 skilled in Architecture, and Master Planned. They aim to design buildings, spaces and places that are people-centred and precision-made.

The Vision for the Site

The developers have identified the following guiding principles that have been instrumental in shaping the evolution of the design.

  • A vibrant new destination – Providing a new landmark complementing the neighbourhood.
  • Adaptable homes – A future proof building designed to ensure potential changes to tenancies dependent on market need.
  • Communal roofs – Rooftop amenity providing a more intimate space for residents, benefiting from views over the river and landscape.
  • Create connections – Creating new links between Walnut Tree Close and the River and acting as a destination for University students.
  • Public ground spaces – Maximise ground-floor landscapes, including a green and biodiverse riverside park, to create an active and valuable space for the community.
  • Employment space – Creation of a flexible and adaptable employment building to re-provide the employment space on site.
  • Creating community – A well-connected, inclusive place with shared outdoor spaces that encourage social interaction and long-term neighbourhood connections.
  • Varied Orientations – Varied orientations create spaces, reinforce and manage permeability and avoid monotony.
  • Resilient Weyside – The buildings and landscape will be adapted to the challenges and embracing of the opportunities of the Wey.
  • Articulate silhouette – Varied heights mediating between the contrasting surroundings and the river whilst optimising the site’s use and permeability.

The scheme as presented last year and the location of the site can be found at the link below this post.
