Planning is migrating from paper to IT.

28 October 2020

Change is happening

The recent Planning for the Future White Paper presents proposals to enable the planning system using IT technology, although it is lacking in specific details.  It is interesting that use of IT may be happening anyway.  Most Architectural plans are now done on Computer Aided Design systems with standardised file formats.

Some Local Authorities have installed software to provide 3D visualisation of their areas and 2D mapping with various layers (a step further than the map provided by GBC).

Progress is being made. The Greater London Authority has completed mapping and visualising its whole area.

Using this technology to effectively engage with the public is going to be the next challenge.
