Three developments have occurred in the fight to get the Permitted Development Rights (PDR) changes and associate Use classifications reconsidered.
The Select Committee for Housing, Communities and Local Government is conducting a short examination of the changes to PDRs. The Society has submitted written evidence to the consultation questions posed by the committee
The Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI), the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (Rics), representing 175,000 professionals in planning, design and development have expressed serious concerns on the changes being adopted by the Ministry of Housing Communities and Local Government (MHCLG). This has culminated in a letter to the Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
The Society attended a Webinar held by Civic Voice, the national body for Civic Trusts, to discuss changes to PDR’s and Use classification. Circa 30-40 Civic Trusts were at the virtual meeting. All agreed that the changes were dangerous and undermined the planning system.
