The Society has reviewed the April Webinar (Still available on this link) of the proposals for North Street and we have also had an opportunity to clarify some points directly with St Edward, the developers.
The Society is pleased that after decades there is a plan coming forward which does look as if it can be built. Inevitably we have concerns on elements of the Massing, Height, and Design. St Edward are still refining aspects of the design, so we await their changes with interest.
The proposed development also raises questions outside the immediate site e.g. how is North St to be revitalised, and Transport issues.
The Society has a sent a list of comments to St Edward and Guilford Borough Council which we hope will be considered as plans are evolved. It is vital to get this development right as it may have a life of over a 100years and will set the standard for the character of the town to the north of North Street.

Help us make Guildford better
We want our town to be vibrant, attractive and liveable. We support development that brings a sense of place and enhances the best aspects of our town. If such aims can be embraced, we believe Guildford has the chance to lead the way in enabling sensitive and sustainable development.
Pressures for development are increasing. Planning rules are being eased. The Society’s commitment to standing up for Guildford is needed more than ever.
