The Bruntwood Property Company has received permission to build Ev0, a £31m office building designed by Sheppard Robson.
The building is aimed at being one of the lowest carbon-emitting workspaces in the country. The Ev0 building at the Didsbury Technology Park, has 82,549 sq ft of workspace across 6 floors providing space for circa 900 plus workers, will have running costs estimated at 58% lower than a traditional new build. Power for the building is totally electric with 94% of this energy generated through photovoltaics arrays located on the building’s roof and car park.
The building is designed to reduce operational energy use through self-shading, thereby minimising energy used for cooling and lighting. The façade design relates to the orientation to the sun with façade depths increased to create deep window reveals that provide shading, whilst framing views and maximising natural daylight.
The building is built using mass timber in the form of a Glue Laminated Timber (Glulam) engineered timber frame together with Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT) floor slabs; and only where required for fire safety have elements of the central core, such as escape stairs and lifts, been formed in concrete.
