The Guildford Design Awards are open to projects completed in Guildford Borough during the previous two years. The awards are run jointly by the Guildford Society and Guildford Borough Council.
The entries received for the Awards show that the borough has a vibrant range of building developments, demonstrated by the great range of over 40 entries.
The panel of judges have carefully considered all the entries and prepared a ’short list’ of some 20 excellent design projects which have been visited during August, The panel will finalise its winners in early September. The gamut of ‘short list’ projects considered in the various categories include; sustainable design, small and major urban interventions, responsive conservation, stimulating new homes, delicate landscapes and striking public art.
The panel will finalise its winners in early September, with the awards to be announced at an event in November.
One of the judges Claire Upton Brown who works for the local council stated ‘Guildford Borough Council are delighted to be involved in the Awards, the breadth of the projects demonstrate how good design is embedded in so many of the schemes built out over the past 2 years.’
The short list covers entries in eleven different categories. Some schemes are entered in more than one category e.g. Multiple Housing, and Public Realm. The judges may elect not to award a prize in a category, and the order of presentation in the Short List is totally random within category. The entries are numbered from 1 to 30. The short-list is shown below. A downloadable PDFcopy can be foud here.
