Flooding Alleviation

Beavers to the rescue?

Having endured another period of intense rainfall it is natural to consider what is happening to the Flood Alleviation Schemes proposed for Guildford.  Little has been heard recently of the plans by the Environment Agency to implement a Guildford flood alleviation scheme.  A scheme is needed to support the creation of the Town Centre Masterplan as several key sites are currently in high risk flood areas.  The threat proposed by inadequate land drainage should not be forgotten as with increased hard areas there is increased run off.

Obviously there are ways to alleviate flooding by making the upstream areas of Guildford capable of absorbing and storing water.  It will be interesting to see how the introduced Beavers help with this – the results from the River Otter appear encouraging.
