Interesting proposed development in Guildford

Guildford Borough Council (GBC) have recently revealed plans to redevelop a small site on Clover Road currently occupied by disused garages replacing it with  8 apartments, all being affordable housing.  Planning application 21/P/01646 refers.

The GBC Housing Team is embarking on a programme to produce a set of planning proposals for residential development across a series of small infill sites in the wider Guildford area.

The GBC team plan to deliver 100% affordable housing, designed to suit their location, whilst yielding the most appropriate level of development the site can accommodate.

All dwellings will be designed to meet national space standards.

Passivhaus

GBC have asked that the new development be built to Passivhaus standards as a test project for the Council’s housing team to trail new standards in home insulation and airtightness, and ventilation equipment. Solar shading and window areas, along with thermal performance will need to be considered in the design to ensure that a Passivhaus standard can be met.

The Proposal

The Design of the proposed 3 Storey block and surroundings looks to be of a higher standard than is normal in the Borough. It looks as if GBC and their architects ERMC are trying to up the standard on affordable housing, and respond to the challenges of the future.

ERMC

ERMC isa multifaceted company as in addition to being a Architectural Practice they also operate Housing Schemes etc.
