Casino Site - Appeal Withdrawn

Inspector recommends appeal is withdrawn

The Casino appeal hearing has been withdrawn on the second day of the hearing.

Both the Guildford Society, focussing on height issues, and Guildford Residents Association, focussing on flooding and detailed design issues, objected to the development by speaking at the first day of the hearing. The Guildford Borough expert witness also questioned the design of the lower floors of the building.

The Inspector after these submissions, questioned many aspects of the proposals.  The questions exposed that the plans for the ground and basement floors’ were inconsistent with many details missing or badly thought through.

At the start of the second day revised plans were produced (including hand drawn amendments).  The Inspector advised that as so many changes were still required that a new application needed to be bought forward.

The developers of the site still have a consented scheme which is lower than the propsed development - this could still proceed.

Pressures for development are increasing. Planning rules are being eased. The Society’s commitment to standing up for Guildford is needed more than ever.
