The council have recently changed Car Parking Rates at various car parks across the town centre. The aim appears to have been to adjust charges to make some locations suitable for short term use up to 2-3 Hours approximatley, and allocate other car parks to be expensive for short term use but cost effective for over 3 hours. Although nobody likes paying car parking charges they are a significant contribution to council finances as central government funding has been withdrawn.
The council website has all the details but hasn't categorised the car parks. Sorting by cost for charges during the week, shows you need to think about how long you are proposing to park in the Town Centre.
For long term day parking the Park and Ride services are very cost effective for a single car and driver. Other Towns' Park and Ride Schemes have family/group tickets; maybe something for Guildford to think about.
At the weekend the situation changes as a number of Contract Parking spaces become available together with adjustments to some of the car parking rates.
