About us & Meetings diary

We are a registered charity whose volunteers aim to provide a forum for debate about the issues affecting our town and borough. We are interested in and dedicated to:

•   Conserving the best of Guildford and its environs
•   Promoting high standards of planning and architecture
•   Influencing the pace and type of development
•   Raising the level of public awareness of local issues

We always need new members so do Sign Up if you want to be involved in the life of Guildford. Membership currently totals over 500 local people.

We have specialist scrutiny groups devoted to Planning, Transport, Design and Heritage and the Local Economy of Guildford. We warmly welcome new volunteers who can bring fresh skills  to these groups  and  also to our Social and Membership group who organise our events programme.

We are affiliated to Civic Voice, a nationwide umbrella organisation for Community Associations and Amenity Societies. The Guildford Society is politically neutral, and strictly independent.

We campaign on key issues affecting the town and urban area of Guildford, hold public meetings , lectures, events , visits and interesting talks and more besides.

People may ask what is The Guildford Society ; what does it stand for; what is its purpose ?  Good questions:  For the answers please read our detailed Position Papers which we hope may encourage a wider debate. .
